Automations: Why is the step I want to use greyed out?

When creating an Automation, steps that are greyed out (disabled) often require information that the preceding triggers or steps don't provide. For example, if you use the "account created" trigger, you can't add an action to send a campaign to the user, since the automation doesn't have user information to act upon.
